Elements of Art

In art class we have been exploring the seven ELEMENTS OF ART. Knowing these elements, line, shape, space, texture, value, and color, will allow us to analyze, appreciate, plan and create our artwork. We have been having a wonderful time identifying these elements in famous works of art and using these elements within our own artwork. Click on the link for your child’s grade to see some examples of artwork our little artists are creating!

Art Appreciation Week

Each year Art Appreciation parent volunteers present a carefully chosen portfolio of art reproductions to the Lumberton School District. At FLW this week, parents spent a full art class talking with the children about art. The theme this year is “The Magic of Art” and parents talked about how art makes you see things in different ways. Students were introduced to famous works of art by artists such as, M.C. Escher, Salvador Dali, and Gustave Verbeck, through games and discussions.

Art Appreciation believes that art is an integral part of life and can reflect and guide life itself. Art can be considered one of the most interdisciplinary studies available to the academic world. By studying the art of a past or present culture, one is able to better understand and appreciate society at that time. During the visits we encourage students to perceive and respond to various forms and aspects of art in an enjoyable manner.

The primary purpose of the program is to stimulate young children in art from all schools and historical periods.

Thank you to all the volunteers who presented this wonderful program. We look forward to seeing you at Ashbrook next week.

New Face In The Artroom

I am fortunate to have a student teacher, Micheal Pierce, working with me at Florence Walther and Ashbrook Elementary Schools. He is currently pursuing a degree in Art Education from The College of New Jersey and has previously received a degree in Graphic Design. He has already started working directly with the students and is looking forward to presenting his own art lessons. Please join me in welcoming Michael to the Lumberton family.

Welcome!

Palette

“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.” – Pablo Picasso

Welcome to another exciting year in the artroom! I’m looking forward to a fantastic year teaching your child to enjoy, appreciate and create art. In class we will be exploring new art materials and learning new ways to use more familiar ones. Your child will build on their knowledge about line and color by drawing and painting; about shape by cutting and folding paper; about texture by making collages and about form by molding clay. We will also spend time examining, and critiquing famous works of art and art from other cultures.

I love watching our little artists grow and develop their talents at Florence Walther and Ashbrook.

Please send in a large art shirt with your child’s name on the front and back for messy projects.
